Best Family Hotels In Spain

Spain is still unbeatable for fantastic family holidays because it offers a combination of sunny weather, silken beaches, delicious cuisine and exciting activities. Most importantly, there is a vast range of family-friendly hotels in hundreds of resorts.

The country is well served by airports and many of the UK’s regional airports have regular flights there. For example, Aberdeen airport flies to mainland Spanish airports such as Barcelona, Malaga, Palma and Reus. Offshore, there are flights to Ibiza in the Balearic Islands and also to the Canary Islands.

At just over one thousand miles away, Spain is a relatively quick flight. Therefore, a holiday in Spain brings all the excitement and luxury of travelling abroad without an overly long journey. For example, flight time from Aberdeen to Barcelona is a short hop of only four and a half hours which makes it ideal for families travelling with young children. If you are not certain where to holiday in Spain, the resorts surrounding Barcelona can be a good place to start.

Santa Susanna

Santa Susanna is an area that is very popular with many families. Pavements are broad, flat and clean which makes it very easy to push strollers, prams or wheelchairs. Many of the hotels have their own children’s play parks and there are also several public play parks too. A short bus ride away in nearby Lloret de Mar is one of Europe’s biggest water parks, Water World, which has water chutes ranging from toddler-friendly through to white knuckle slides.

Santa Susanna plays host to many delightful and modern hotels, many of which line the coast. An excellent choice for a family holiday is the Royal Sun which is surrounded by palm trees, giving the location a pleasant tropical feel. The hotel is large, spacious, clean and modern. It is conveniently sited right next to glorious golden sands making it easy to come and go from the beach without having to prepare for a major expedition. The Royal Sun provides an all-inclusive service and the restaurant provides a huge selection of local and international food. There is always a number of choices for children who prefer to stick to their favourites.

A little further along the coast in Calella is the Amaika Hotel which is very family friendly. This time the hotel is set a little further back from the beach, but it is no more than a five-minute walk away. Inside, the hotel is very ornate, especially in the dining room. The Amaika is based on the interior design used for the Titanic which is certainly an interesting talking point for the children. Family rooms are enormous which means it is easy to accommodate the entire family in one room so there are no worries about leaving youngsters in separate rooms.

Apart from the lovely clean beach in Calella, there is an excellent shopping quarter on the hotel’s doorstep with hundreds of traditional shops, charming churches and lovely squares to explore.
