Be Inspired with Things To Do in The Lake District

There are an enormous amount of things to do in the Lake District, from thrilling outdoor activities to romantic retreats in the heart of Cumbria or perhaps a boat trip along one of the Lake Districts glorious lakes.

At the heart of the Lake District lies Lake Windermere situated close to the town of Windermere and Bowness. Here you can enjoy the tranquility and peaceful views of the surrounding mountains and countryside, with boat trips running regularly. There are many water activities to choose from, not forgetting the annual water festival on Lake Windermere, or perhaps hire your own rowing boat or cruiser for an afternoon of boating pleasure.
If a little history or culture is more suitable, take a look at The World of Beatrix Potter, fun for all the family bringing the tales to life! The Lake District has also been the setting for many famous films and dramas, all of which can be accessed at your leisure.

Only a few miles west of Windermere is the magnificent Ambleside, famous for it’s vegetarian restaurants and theatres; Zeffirellis and Fellinis. Tickets are available for many films as well as theatre productions, however the jazz bar is a must for anyone with a musical passion, with artists spanning the globe playing regularly at both restaurants.

Close to Ambleside is the picturesque village of Grasmere, which boasts many extraordinary little tea rooms with views of the Helm Crag no less. Grasmere also has fascinating information on the life and works of Wordsworth, and is simply breathtaking at all times of the year, particularly when the oil lamps light the cobbled streets after sunset.

North of here you cannot escape the magic of Keswick, easily accessible and wonderful for campers and walkers alike. Keswick holds many of the wonderful things to do in the Lake District, including the Pencil Museum, Theatre by the Lake and links to Grizedale Pike and other wonderful retreats. Keswick also hosts many various film, beer and jazz festivals throughout the year, and a famous market held along the streets of Keswick on a weekly basis.

Derwent Lake is situated within walking distance of Keswick and has various boats to hire at reasonable prices. Why not take some strawberries and champagne and row to one of the many little islands within the lake for a picnic to remember!

For an experience of a charming little market town; Cockermouth, Kirkby Lonsdale and Ulverston are well worth a visit, where you can find many wonderful treasures including home made arts and crafts.

North of Cumbria lies the historic city of Carlisle, with a pleasant mix of traditional and contemporary sites and places of interest. Carlisle also has a tremendous Cathedral within walking distance of the famous Greenmarket.
